Quite a few of you have reached out to show me that you tried my recipes I shared. I genuinely appreciate it and I hope you are enjoying the food as much as I enjoy sharing it with you! Today I want to share my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. Now, I love a toll house cookie as much as the next person, but you can’t beat a home made, fresh out the oven, chocolate chip cookie with a glass of ice cold milk. I am going to tell you how I make mine.
2 sticks of butter (NOT MARGARINE *I hate that stuff with a passion)
1 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla (I don’t actually measure I just pour until I feel good about it)
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup bread flour (you can use all purpose here, the bread flour just helps them stay chewy the next day)
1 cup milk chocolate chips
1 bar bakers semi sweet chocolate chopped into chunks (can replace with semi-sweet chunks from the bag)
Make sure your butter is room temp. If you forget to set it out then stick it in the microwave for 5 seconds and then flip it and do 5 second increments until its soft but not melted. Then add in the brown sugar and white sugar and cream them together. Then add your eggs and mix them in well before adding the vanilla and baking powder. Once that is all combined, add in your flour and mix well. Then stir in all your chocolate and bake them at 350 for 10-12 mins. I used a 1 1/2 tbls cookie scoop and they come out perfect every time. If you make them bigger or smaller you will need to adjust the baking time.
This is a good recipe to get your kids involved in! My little boy loves to help me make these. He cracks the eggs, dumps the stuff into the bowl, turns on the mixer for me, and helps with the scooping. His favorite part is getting to lick the spatula and eat the chocolate chips that “accidentally” miss the bowl.
Speaking of kids, something I have battled with lately is apologizing to my oldest when I act inappropriately. I want my son to respect me, but I also want him to know that mom is human and she gets it wrong sometimes. I think it is important for our kids to hear us confess our wrongs because it teaches them repentance. I think sometimes our pride tell us that if our kids hear us say we are wrong, they will never think we are right. I think it is actually the opposite. I think when we confess our wrongs to them it helps them see that other times when we are trying to discipline that it is actually for their benefit and they will take us more seriously.
Their is a difference in yelling at my son for accidentally spilling juice on the floor while I am trying to console an unhappy baby while also cooking dinner and sending my son to time out for blatantly disobeying me. In the first scenario my flesh got the better of me because I am stressed and don’t have time to deal with cleaning up juice. In the second, we are learning to obey our mom and dad (which is one of the 10 commandments). So don’t hear me say that I apologize for passing out spankings and sending kids to time out. But when I get it wrong, I apologize. I want my son to realize that repentance is important. When we don’t get it right we need to own up to it. For most of my life I didn’t do that. And I still struggle with it sometimes. I don’t like being wrong (its the Wilson in me). But the truth is, in this walk with Christ we are going to get it wrong WAY more often than we get it right, so knowing how to repent and do it differently the next time is a much needed discipline. So if you are one of those perfect moms out there who has mastered the art of never over reacting to your children, I envy you. But if you are like me, try apologizing the next time you get it wrong. I feel confident you’ll notice your children apologizing when they get it wrong too. Love ya’ll!

Thank you for sharing! I’ll have to get B to make the cookies with me. And, I’ll probably have to apologize for something when we make them. You know cooking doesn’t bring out my best side!
B is always welcome to come make them at our house! 😉
Love the devotion! Couldn’t agree more.
